WOLCOTT ~ Mrs. Mary (Collier) Akers, 75, of Wolcott passed away on Sunday, February 19, 2012 at the Village Green of Bristol in Forestville. She was the wife of John Akers. Mary was born January 1, 1937 in Big Stone Gap, VA, daughter of the late Otis and Hazel (Moore) Collier. She enjoyed her flower garden, fishing, and bingo, but was remembered most by her family for the blankets she painstakingly spent hours crocheting for them. Besides her husband of 56 years, she leaves her children, Sharon Grissgraber of Kernersville, NC, Patricia Akers of New Haven, John Akers and his wife, Denise of Wolcott, Thomas Akers and his wife, Annette of Bristol, and Kenneth Akers of Terryville, five grandchildren, and brothers, Thomas Collier of Xenia, OH and James Collier of Big Stone Gap, VA. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11 am at Woodtick Memorial, 420 Woodtick Rd., Wolcott. Entombment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Watertown.
