MARJORIE "SANDY" MALCOLM
WATERBURY ~ Marjorie "Sandy" (Sonderegger) Malcolm, 81 of Waterbury passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 2nd surrounded by her family at St. Marys Hospital.
Born November 10, 1929 in Waterbury, she was the daughter of the late George and Helen (Turnow) Sonderegger. Marjorie was a veteran of the Korean War where she served as a nurse, with distinction at the 121st evacuation hospital and later at hospitals in Okinawa and in the states. In addition she worked as a special courier for the Army and carried classified and confidential documents to and from Tokyo, Japan. She was among the first group of female nurses from Connecticut to serve in Korea, attained the rank of First Lieutenant, and was a recipient of the Overseas Bar. During her service Marjorie survived two near helicopter crashes and an emergency plane landing. From that time forth her preference of travel was car, bus or train to vacation with her family. After leaving the military, she moved to Montana where she resided for several years, and moved back to Waterbury to raise her family. Marjorie loved the beach, family picnics, and to cook for her large and extended family. Holidays were always extra special as she gathered her family and friends to celebrate with them. Her "food" door was always open to the neighborhood kids and pets that her children brought home. She was always ready for a long ride to anywhere. Even if you got lost when going for a scoop of ice cream, it didnt matter, it only added to the adventure. She always had an open ear to anyones heartaches ~ you would always have her confidence. Marjorie will be greatly missed by the many family members and friends that she touched.
She leaves her children, Sherry Cassidy and her companion, Mark Pelosi of Waterbury, Douglas Malcolm and his wife, Kathleen (Duffy) of Branford, Roy Malcolm of Waterbury, Daena Wysocki and her husband, Dominic of Southington, and Dawn Wysocki and her husband, Michael of Southington, her grandchildren, Heather and Amy Cassidy, Roy Smith, Meghan and Kathryn Malcolm, Laura Temporale, Michael and Sarah Wysocki, two great grandchildren, Pauly Pinto and Brooke Currie, her sister, Lois J. Amodio of Jacksonville, FL, many special nieces and nephews, cousins, and extended family. She was predeceased by beloved daughter, Diane "Annie" Temporale and grandson, "Mr. Richard" Temporale.
The family would like to extend great appreciation and special thanks to the staff on OBrien 7, whom they comfortably entrusted her care to, as they would no other.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Monday, February 7th at 10:30 am at Woodtick Memorial, 420 Woodtick Rd., and Wolcott. Burial will follow in Old Pine Grove Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 5 to 8 pm.
