Waterbury - Maria R. (Aviles) Medina, 78, passed away on September 7, 2013 with her family by her side after a battle with cancer. She was the wife to Humberto "Berto" Medina Sr. for 59 years. Maria was born on January 18, 1935 to the late Manuel and Julia (Santos) Aviles in Orocovis, PR. She retired from Fliecher Finishing in Waterbury after working there for 27 years. Prior to that, she worked for many years sewing at Waterbury Garment. She was a former member at St. Cecilia Church in Waterbury before attending Sacred Heart, Sagrado Corazon Church. Maria was dedicated and devoted to her husband and family, working many hours to help support them, she enjoyed cooking and spending time with them the most. Maria is survived by her loving husband, Berto and her children, Evelyn and her husband Moises Velez of Waterbury, Humberto Jr. and his wife Isabel Medina of Florida, Edwin and his wife Migdalia of Wolcott, her siblings, Mary Aviles, Victor Aviles, Piti Aviles all of Puerto Rico, Gilberto Aviles, Jose Aviles of Florida, Rafi Aviles, Tilza Ramos all of Florida, grandchildren, Brenda, Mayra, Eric, Carlos, Eleesia, Elian, great grandchildren, Ali, Elijah, Jaden, Samuel, Viviana, Natalia and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by four brothers, Antonio Aviles, Manuel DeJesus, Carlos J. Aviles and Ernesto Aviles. Calling hours will be held Tuesday morningat 8:30amfrom Woodtick Memorial,420 Woodtick Rd., Wolcott to arrive at Sacred Heart Sagrado Corazon Church for a Mass at 11am.
