Obituary

MARGARET HOLMES Member of Mill Plain Union Church WATERBURY ~ Margaret (Peg) Holmes, 89, wife of beloved husband, Robert J. Holmes of Wolcott passed away on Saturday, November 13th after a brief illness, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Dalry, Scotland on December 28, 1920 the daughter of the late William and Martha (Welsh) Currie. Margaret came to the U.S. in 1925, first settling in Windber, PA and then moved to Waterbury. She was a graduate of Crosby High School and attended Post College. She was a member of Mill Plain Union Church for over 65 years. Margaret took up golf in her later years and was a member of Farmingbury Hills for several years. She loved Cape Cod and she and Bob had a summer home in Brewster for 22 years. She also loved to travel (her longest trip being to New Zealand at age 82 to attend her grandsons wedding). Margaret was an avid reader and enjoyed doing various crafts throughout her lifetime. Margaret is survived by her loving husband. Robert of 68 years and 3 children, Beth Smedick and her partner, Dave Voris of Southington, Gail Pernaa and her husband, Wayne of Watertown, and Robert W. Holmes and his wife, Norma of Wellfleet, MA. She leaves her 5 grandchildren, Meghan Alexander, Sarah Smedick, Rufus Ayers, Kyle Smedick and Tyler Ayers, and 8 grandchildren, Andrew Taylor, Sabrina Antonacci, Shauna Ayers, Bill and MacKenzie Alexander, Sadie Ayers, and Seth and Nieve Smedick. She is also survived by a sister, Rosetta Hobbie, her nieces and nephew, several cousins, and many dear friends. Margarets greatest joy in life was the wonderful gatherings with her family whom she dearly loved ~ "what greater blessing in life could a mother have!". There are no calling hours and funeral and burial services are private. Woodtick Memorial has been entrusted with the arrangements.
