WINSTED - Mr. Marcel R. Philibert, mostly known as Butchie, 75, of Willow Street, died peacefully while surrounded by his family on January 28, 2012 at his home. He was the loving husband to Rita (Deschaine) Philibert for 49 years. Butch formerly resided in Waterbury.
Mr. Philibert was born on October 9, 1936 in Waterbury, son to Marie (LaBonte) of Florida and the late Benoit Philibert. Butchie served his country honorably in the US Air Force from 1955-1959. He was a parishioner of the Shrine of St. .Annes Church and member of the Franco American Social Club. Butchie was a former Little League Coach for Scott Road, and lived his life as a major sports fan, especially when it came to the kids throughout his entire family. He loved the UCONN Huskies (Girls), the Yankees and the Giants and had predicted a win next week. He was also called Pepere by many. Marcel worked for many years at a textile mill in shipping and receiving as well as an auditor for UPS. Currently he was working at Stop & Shop as a prepared food clerk.
Besides his mother Marie and wife Rita, Marcel is survived by a son Michael Philibert and his wife Cheryl of West Greenwich, RI, his daughters Lisa Philibert of Wolcott, Maureen Nolan and her husband Jeffrey of Wolcott, Mirielle Besanceney and her husband James of Winchester, eleven grandchildren, four great grandchildren, his brothers, Richard Philibert of New Haven, Roger Philibert of Florida, a sister Marguerite Lamy of Florida and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son Daniel.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 9:30 from the Woodtick Memorial, 420 Woodtick Rd., Wolcott, to the Shrine of Saint Anne Church for a Mass of Christian burial at 11:00 am with burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Tuesday.
