Wolcott Lucille B. Messer, 90, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, May 7, 2019. She was the beloved wife of the late Charles Messer.
Lucille was born in Waterbury on November 25, 1928 to Romeo and Juliette (Archambault) Bienvenue. As a devout Catholic, Lucille was actively involved in the church. She was the former 3 term president of the Madonna Guild for SS. Peter and Paul Church, and the cofounder and former 6 term president of Our Ladys Guild of St. Leo the Great. She was on the building fund committee, elected to church council and created and chaired the tag sale for the Scholarship Committee at St. Leos Church. She was trustee at St. Leos and member of St. Leos Finance Committee. In addition, she volunteered at bingo and chaired many fund raising events. In 2006, The Archdiocese of Hartford awarded her with the St. Joseph Medal of Appreciation for distinguished and outstanding service to the church. In 1947, she won Miss Teen Queen, Waterbury and in 1951, won Miss Waterbury for American Brass.
Lucille worked for American Brass; was cofounder of V & L Frozen Foods; staff assistant for Senator Lowell Weicker from 83 -88; and for the family business, Eastwood Towing in Waterbury, for 54 years.
Lucilles hobbies included reading, sewing, movies, painting, and was the official family photographer.
She also enjoyed traveling, and most of all, spending time with her treasured family.
Left to cherish her memories are her children, Mary Daddona, and her husband, Richard, of Waterbury; Julie Sheehan, of Wolcott; and Jim Messer, and his wife, Patricia, of Wolcott; her sister, Loretta Barry, of Oxford; her brother, Richard Bienvenue, of MA; her grandchildren, Paul Sheehan; Lisa Primus; Kenneth Sheehan; John Daddona; Matthew Sheehan; Paula Daddona; and Judy Messer Dodd; her 7 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.
Lucille was predeceased by her husband of 41 years, Charles Messer, her brother, Andre Bienvenue, her sister Pauline Maroney; and her son in law, Martin Sheehan.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 11 at 8 a.m. from Woodtick Memorial, 420 Woodtick Road, Wolcott, proceeding to St. Leo the Great, 14 Bentwood Drive, Waterbury to celebrate Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. Burial will follow in New Pine Grove Cemetery, Waterbury. Calling hours will be held on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
