Obituary

WATERBURY ~ Lewis Eugene Greenwood, 84, of Waterbury, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 29, 2012 surrounded by his family at Wolcott View Manor. He was the husband of the late Marie Therese Cecile (Rousseau) Greenwood. Mr. Greenwood was born November 4, 1927 in St. Johnsbury, VT, son of the late Frank and Agnes Greenwood. He attended St. Johnsbury Academy for two years before enlisting in the military. He married his true love, Marie Therese Cecile Rousseau on September 5, 1949. The newlyweds briefly moved to Springfield, Mass before settling down in Waterbury in 1954. Lewis worked and retired from the Timex Company. He was a proud WWII veteran, serving in the First Squadron Fifth Calvary Unit, receiving a victory medal and an army of occupation medal, reaching the rank of Sergeant. Lewis was a member of the V.F.W. Post 5157 of Watertown, a member of the American Legion Post 200 of Rocky Hill, a lifetime member of the N.R.A. and a lifetime member of the First Calvary Division Association. Lewis was an avid reader and a knife collector. He had a vast knowledge of rifles and handguns. He enjoyed talking on his 2-way radio and telling the story of how they hit the lotto, taking his grandchildren on day trips and having them sleep over. Lewis had great love and pride in his family and truly loved every minute spent with them. Mostly, he enjoyed spending his retired years with his beloved wife, Marie. Lewis is survived by his daughters, Noella Capobianco and her husband, Richard of Waterbury, Joyce George and her husband Robert of Prospect, Cynthia Birkenberger of Waterbury and Mary L. Sciortino and her husband Joseph of Torrington, his brother Robert Greenwood and his wife, Jackie, of Hyde Park, VT. He is also survived by his eleven grandchildren and twenty six great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brothers George, Francis, James, Donald and his sister Louise. The Greenwood family thanks Drs. Leonardi Koliani, George Antonopoulis, the smiling staff of Wolcott View Manor as well as all the special caregivers that took the time to listen to his stories. A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 9:30 am from Woodtick Memorial, 420 Woodtick Rd., Wolcott to SS Peter & Paul Church for a funeral mass at 10:30 am. Burial will follow in Woodtick Cemetery, Wolcott. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 5 to 8 pm.
