Obituary

Prospect Kyungsook (Kim) Petrahai, 78, of Prospect, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 15, 2018 at the Glendale Center in Naugatuck. She was the widow of Mr. Joseph Arthur Petrahai, III. Kyungsook was born on March 20, 1940 in Korea. She earned masters degrees in library science, divinity, and social work from the University of Pittsburgh, Yale University, and The University of Connecticut, respectively. Kyungsook worked as a social worker for the State of Connecticut for more than 20 years until her retirement. She had a passion for traveling, gardening, and helping future generations further their education. In 1993, Kyungsook established the Joseph A. & Kyungsook K. Petrahai Scholarship Fund with the Connecticut Community Foundation. The Fund awards scholarships to students attending public undergraduate educational institutions in Connecticut including University of Connecticut, Connecticut State Universities and Connecticut Community Colleges. A total of 9 scholarships have been awarded from the Fund totaling $6,386, all but one to students attending the University of Connecticut. Kyungsook is survived by her children, Stephanie (Petrahai) Farlow and Theodore Petrahai of Waterbury. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, November 21, 2018 from 12:00 to 2:00 P.M. at Woodtick Memorial, 420 Woodtick Rd., Wolcott. Burial will be held privately.
