WATERBURY ~ Joseph O. Matteau Jr., 57, of Kelsey St., passed away on Tuesday, January 11th after a short battle with cancer.
He was born in Waterbury, on February 23, 1953 the son of the late Joseph O. and Jeannette (Millette) Matteau Sr. In the last few years Joe worked as a driver, first for the Salvation Army in Bridgeport and most recently for the VNA of Waterbury. He enjoyed fishing and was an all around New York fan, watching the Yankees. Sunday was his day to watch football with the hopes of the Giants being on. Joe also loved to watch the snow when there was a storm. He will be sadly missed by his nephew, Dennis Jr. as he was his "Buddy" and great niece, Kailey Jeannette Velez as they were always "partners in crime".
He is also survived by two brothers, Dennis Matteau Sr. and his wife Amy, in which he made his home with, Robert Matteau Sr. and his wife Gloria, of Waterbury, a sister, Sandra King and her husband Mike of Waterbury, many beloved nephews, nieces and great nephews and nieces.
His family would like to express their appreciation to St. Marys Hospital and their staff for the wonderful care and compassion they had in taking care of Joe.
Friends and family are asked to gather at Woodtick Memorial on Monday, January 17th from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Burial will be private.
