John Swoszowski
Devoted husband and father
WOLCOTT- John Joseph Swoszowski, 85, beloved husband of Mary (Rojowski) Swoszowski died peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Sunday March 16th at CT Hospice in Branford.
John was born in Shelton, CT on July 24, 1939, son of the late Stanley and Mary (Pryor) Swoszowski. John proudly served in the US Army 82nd Airborne during the Vietnam Era. He graduated from Dayton University where he earned a Bachelors Degree and later his Masters degree from University of New Haven both in Mechanical Engineering. After many years John became a Senior Manufacturing Engineer utilizing high technology with CAD-CAM for the aircraft industry at Sikorsky Aircraft, Pratt & Whitney, and Hamilton Standard. One of his favorite projects was working on the F-22 Raptor Fighter Plane and the Black Hawk.
The outstanding memories are John's commitment to keeping healthy and fit through exercise and healthy eating. He was a tremendous athlete who played semi-pro Soccer with several Italian teams, basketball, golf, runner, fisherman and also loved playing pinochle and set-back with his family and friends.
Strong faith, impeccable character, dry sense of humor, love of history, travel, sports, news, and quality movies were among John's interests. He loved helping others by volunteering in St. Vincent soup kitchen for many years, driving patients to and from to the Leever Cancer Center, volunteering at the VA in North Haven, visiting veterans through VITA's program and helping out wherever he could.
Besides his wife Mary of forty-nine years, John leaves his son Michael Swoszowski and several nieces and nephews. Robert Swoszowski and wife Evelyn, niece Lauren Aldavero and Karyn Swoszowski, Kristin Swoszowski Tran, Steven R. Swoszowski, nephew Daniel Swoszowski and wife Kathleen, nephew Tom Swoszowski and son Ryan, nephew Gregory Padula and wife Stephanie, niece Susan Taback and husband Evan, and their daughter Noa and lastly, Judy Padula, his favorite sister-in-law.
John was predeceased by his daughter Julie Swoszowski, his sister Lillian Nardone, and brothers Edward and Casmir "Bob" Swoszowski.
Friends and family are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday March 21 beginning at 11 AM at St. Pius Church/ St. Basil Parish. Burial with military honors to follow in Edgewood Cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday from 5 to 7 PM at Woodtick Memorial 420 Woodtick Rd. in Wolcott.
