Wolcott - Mr. John W. Murphy, 56, passed away on Wednesday evening, October 7, at the Hartford Hospital, surrounded by family and loved ones. He was the husband of Kathy (Jackman) Murphy. John was born June 25, 1959 in New Haven, son of the late Dr. William J. and Vivian (Moody) Murphy. Raised in Wolcott he attended local schools and was a graduate of Wolcott High School class of 1978. He had served honorably in the United States Marine Corps with posts in Parris Island and Iwakuni Japan. John had been employed as toolmaker at the former Airpax in Cheshire and was recently working at with clients with intellectual disabilities at Easter Seals, Waterbury. As a volunteer with the Cub Scouts he had served as a cub master with pack #231. He was a member of Team GKS at the Goldberg Karate Studio and recently received his 3rd degree black belt. John was an avid motor cycle enthusiast and loved Harley-Davidson motor cycles. In addition to his wife he is survived by two sons, William R. Murphy of Waterbury and Patrick H. Murphy of Wolcott; one daughter, Shannon K. Murphy of Wolcott; one sister, Susan M. Mulcahy of Wolcott and many nieces and nephews. Arrangements: Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 10, at 1:00 P.M. at Woodtick Memorial 420 Woodtick Rd. in Wolcott. Friends may call at the funeral home from 11:00 A.M. until time of service. Memorial contributions may be made in Johns name to the Myles V.
