Wolcott - John J. DiCarlo,60, of Wolcott, died Thursday, at the VITAS Hospice in St. Mary's Hospital surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with lung cancer. He was the belovedhusband of Karen (Stafstrom) DiCarlo. Born in Waterburyon December 31, 1951, he was the son of the lateJohn A. DiCarlo and Lucy (Novelli) DiCarlo.He was a Marine Corps veteran. John worked for many years as a Toolmaker and during his career he worked for Waterbury Companies, Line Manufacturing and most recently at Carten Controls in Cheshire.
John had a passion for running.He ranin hundreds of road races and marathons. He ran in the Marine Corps,Chicago, Hartford,Mystic and the Disney Marathons and twice in the Boston Marathon, loving every mile.John's favorite was running the Litchfield Hills Road Race each year. He was an avid sports fan andmost especially loved the Yankees and the Giants.
He was a loving husband, proudfather and grandpa for whom family was everything. He overcame multiple obstacles with his health but always pulled through with a smile and a positive outlook on life. Besides his loving wife Karen of 26 years, he is survived by a daughter, Jamie Neri of Florida, his two sons, David of Waterbury, and Thomas of Wolcott, his grandsons, Kyle and Anthony Neri of Florida, two sisters, Joanand her husband, Don Charetteof Wolcott, Jean Sciortino and her husband, Gerald of Florida, a brother Richard and his wife, Andrea DiCarlo of Waterbury, several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11 am at Woodtick Memorial, 420 Woodtick Rd., Wolcott followed by a military service. Burial is private. Calling hours will be held on Monday from 4 pm to 8 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the VITAS Hospice, 56 Franklin St. Waterbury, CT 06706.
