OAKVILLE ~ Jerry L. Belanger, 71, of Oakville passed away on Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at Hartford Hospital. He was the husband of Irmgard "Irma" (Stammer) Belanger.
Jerry was born March 29, 1942 in Waterbury, son of the late Louis and Madeline (Laferriere) Belanger. He attended St. Annes grammar school and Kaynor Tech, where he formed friendships that sustained him throughout his lifetime.
As a United States Army veteran, Jerry served proudly in Korea, where he became a lineman. This training sparked an interest in the electrical industry, culminating in the startup of Central Connecticut Cable Company in 1975. Jerry was a member of the BPOE Lodge 265, the American Legion, VFW, New England Line Constructors, and a charter member of Local 42 IBEW.
Known as "Mr. B", he coached many years for the Wolcott Little League and the Watertown Mickey Mantle League. An avid golfer, Jerry was a member of the Western Hills Golf Course.
Aside from Irma, his wife of 42 years, he is survived by his sons, Stephen Belanger and his wife Joan, of Waterbury, Marc Belanger and his wife Wendy, of Thomaston, his brother Michael Belanger, of Waterbury and his beloved grandchildren, Elizabeth Dana, Alyssa, Stephanie, and Stephen, Jr., Emily, and Briana Belanger, as well as several nieces and nephews. Jerry was predeceased by his cherished sister, Brenda Palomba.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, November 11, 2013 at 10 AM at the Shrine of St. Anne, 515 South Main Street, Waterbury followed by burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Watertown. Everyone is asked to meet at the church. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, November 10, from 3 to 7 at Woodtick Memorial, 420 Woodtick Road, Wolcott.
