WOLCOTT, CT- It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jennifer Mariah Gonzalez-Smith who passed away after a courageous battle with a very aggressive form of cancer. She was only 43 years of age.
Jennifer was a hard-working wife and mother of three beautiful children and cared tremendously for all of those she knew and took care of. She had great faith in God loved her dogs, cats and chickens. She loved to cook and was a great at it.
On November 26, 1981, Jennifer was born in Norwalk, CT, daughter of Heidi Hemmingway and David Gonzalez. She grew up in Norwalk and graduated from Brien McMahon High School. While attending Western CT State University, she met her husband and best friend Timothy Smith. During that time, she began serving in the CT Air National Guard. She went on to graduate with a Masters Degree from Fordham University. While working as a therapist for many years with WCT Behavioral Health, Jennifer was exceptionally caring and compassionate for her clients. Jen, Tim and their children have been residing in Wolcott, CT for over 10 years.
Jennifer proudly served her country in the CT Air National Guard for over 20 years. As a dedicated 'Flying Yankee' and member of the 103d Airlift Wing, she was selected to serve in multiple leadership positions throughout the organization and deployed to Kuwait in support of Operation Inherent Resolve. Jennifer's exceptional leadership skills coupled with her kindness and compassion for fellow Airmen allowed her to quickly rise to the rank of Senior Master Sergeant where she truly embodied the Air Force Core Values of Integrity First, Service Before Self, and Excellence in all she did.
Left to cherish her memory and carry on her loving legacy are her husband Timothy, her sons Jacob and Declan Smith, her daughter Josephine Smith, her mother Heidi Hemmingway, her father David Gonzalez and his wife Patricia, her brother David Gonzlez, her father-in-law and mother-in-law George and Deborah Smith, her brother-in-law Chris and his wife Colleen Smith as well as several nieces nephews and many friends.
