Jeanine "Ginger" Michaud
Retired Teacher, Korean Navy Veteran
MIDDLEBURY- Jeanine Rita "Ginger" Michaud, 79, formerly of Wolcott, passed away on Sunday, March 10, 2013, at the Middlebury Convalescent Home. She was a member of St. Pius X Church in Wolcott.
Jeanine was born June 10, 1933 in Waterbury, daughter of the late Albert and Rita (Cormier) Michaud. She had grown up in the French Canadian section of Waterbury with her siblings. Being only one year apart, from her sister Charmaine, they explored life together. After graduating from Waterbury Catholic High, she enlisted in the US Navy. While she was stationed in Washington D.C. one of her duties was Morse Code. During her tour she developed a deep sense of patriotism that she carried throughout her life.
Jeanine graduated from Ithaca College with a bachelor degree in Physical Education and taught for many years in New York at Pearl River High School until her retirement. During her life she also coordinated summer camp programs and worked as a counselor in both Connecticut and up-state NY. She loved her family and helped take care of them. Jeanine passed on her love of nature to the children in her family. Some of her favorite pastimes were reading, crossword puzzles, playing bingo, and reminiscing with her sister.
She leaves her sister, Charmaine Michaud of Watertown, a brother, Donald Michaud of Wolcott, Several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews that she loved as her own children. She was predeceased by a brother, Roger Michaud.
A funeral Mass is on Friday, March 15 at 10 am at St. Pius X Church. Everyone is asked to meet directly at the church, there are no calling hours. Entombment will be held in Calvary Cemeterys Garden Mausoleum with military honors.
