Obituary

JEAN THOMPSON POUCHER Loving Mother Jean Thompson Poucher, age 89, passed away peacefully on Saturday November 21, 2009 at the Alzheimers Resource Center of Connecticut (ARCC) in Plantsville where she had resided for the past four years. She was born in Shelburne, VT to Thomas Mark and Alice (Bryson) Thompson on June 20, 1920. The youngest of four children, she was known as "Babe" to her family. She loved to spend her summers on Nantucket and, after graduating from Baypath College in Springfield, she worked for her sisters Business Service on the island. She was married to Stanley R. Poucher for over 60 years and resided with him in Winsted and Bristol, until his death in 2006. While Jean did work for a number of years as an Administrative Assistant and a Telephone Operator, she was first and foremost a remarkable mother. She cherished her two sons and she devoted her life to loving and supporting them - and later her grandchildren - in whatever they did. If a Cub Scout Pack needed a Den Mother or a trip required a driver or chaperone, Jean could always be counted upon to be the first volunteer and there was never an athletic event, recital, play or other activity that she failed to attend. Her love of children never left her, and even when she was no longer able to understand who her great grandchildren were, their visits would still generate a huge and loving smile. Jean was a generous and giving person, and to the very end she would always try to share whatever she had with her visitors. She was a very special person - especially to her sons - and she will be dearly missed. Jean is survived by her son Edward B. "Ted" Poucher and his wife Diana of Wilmington, NC, her son James T. Poucher and his wife Arlene of Wolcott, her granddaughter Alicia Bratton and her husband Ben of Fairfield, her grandson James H. Poucher and his wife Jennifer of Fairfield, two great grandchildren, Lauren and Alex Bratton, and her niece Marilyn Webb Neagley of Shelburne, VT. She is predeceased by her husband Stan, sister Ede, and brothers Bry and Shirl. A Memorial Service celebrating Jeans life will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, November 28th at Woodtick Memorial, 420 Woodtick Road, Wolcott. The family will receive friends during the hour preceding the service. A burial service will be held at 2:30 at the Forest View Cemetery in Winsted. The Poucher Family would like to take this opportunity to extend their sincerest gratitude to the ARCC staff for the kind, gentle and compassionate care that they provided to Jean over the years that she resided with them. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to ARCC, 1261 South Main Street, Plantsville, CT 06479.
