In Loving Memory of Janice Knapp Barbieri October 21, 1940 November 17, 2024 Jefferson, Georgia Mrs. Janice (Knapp) Barbieri, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 17, 2024, in Gainesville, Georgia. She was 84 years old. Born on October 21, 1940, in Waterbury, Connecticut, Janice was the cherished daughter of the late Theodore and Edith Mae (Payne) Knapp. She was lovingly raised by Rene and Elizabeth (Knapp) Lemieux. At 22, Janice married her soulmate, James J. Barbieri, in 1963. The couple built their life together in Wolcott, Connecticut, where they welcomed their growing family and created countless memories. Janice enjoyed a successful 27-year career with the Southern New England Telephone Company. In 1983, she and her husband relocated to Columbus, Georgia, where she continued working at Lithochrome, CB&T Bank and Talbots. Following her retirement, Janice and James moved to Jefferson, Georgia, to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Janice was a proud supporter of the University of Georgia Bulldogs and an avid UGA football fan. She found joy in crafting, solving puzzles, and, as those who knew her best will fondly recall, indulging in her love of shopping. Traveling with her husband and close friends brought her countless adventures and cherished memories. Janice was also deeply committed to her community and causes close to her heart. She was a 68-year member of the Southern New England Telephone Pioneers, a founding member of the Womens Auxiliary Knights of Columbus in Waterbury, an active participant in the Junior League, and a dedicated member of the PTA in Wolcott Schools. Janice leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion. She is survived by her beloved husband of 61 years, James J. Barbieri; her three children, Susan (Barbieri) Dickey and her husband Daniel, Michael Barbieri and his wife Cathy, and James T. Barbieri and his wife Dana; and her adored grandchildren: Beth (Dickey) McCart and her husband Drew, Lauren (Dickey) Jeffords and her husband Andrew, David Barbieri and his wife April, Lisa Barbieri, Sabrina Rex, Rachel (Barbieri) Washington and her husband Denzel, Leah Barbieri, and Joshua Barbieri. She is also survived by her precious great-grandchildren: Abigail McCart, James Daniel (JD) Jeffords, Reid Jeffords, Elias Washington, and Amir Washington. Janice is remembered by her siblings Edith Ackerman, Linda Peet, Richard Knapp, and Rene Lemieux and his wife Gudrun, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family. She was predeceased by her siblings Theodore Knapp, Joan Scully, George Knapp James E. Knapp and Robert J. Knapp. Janices family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the nurses and staff at Winder Center Rehabilitation and the NE Georgia Medical Center Hospice Unit for their compassionate care and support during her final days. Her unwavering devotion to her family and the joy she brought to everyone around her will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her. Friends and family are invited to celebrate Janices life on Saturday Dec. 7, 2024 at Woodtick Memorial 420 Woodtick Rd. Wolcott. Visitation will begin at 9 AM and the service will begin at 10:30. Following the service she will be laid to rest in the Garden of Angels Columbarium in Calvary Cemetery.
