WOLCOTT ~ James Carney, 81, of Wolcott passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 23rd at his home surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Evelyn (Carroll) Carney.
James was born March 26, 1930 in Manhattan, NY, son of the late Patrick and Mary Carney. He served as a Maryknoll brother for 18 years and was a member of St. Aloysius Church and the Holy Name Society. James was a C.C.D. teacher for many years at St. Pius X Church and St. Aloysius Church. After 20 years of service, he retired from F & S Oil Co. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Armor Dei Council 3961 of Wolcott, and was a former member and past president of the Ancient Order of Hibernians in New York.
Besides his wife, Evelyn of 39 years, he leaves a son, Joseph Carney of Waterbury, a daughter, Stephanie Carney of Wolcott, several nieces and nephews, and his constant companion, Zoe.
The family would like to thank the dedicated doctors and nurses at Smilow Cancer Center and the Connecticut Hospice in Branford for the care and compassion that was extended to James during his illness.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, July 2nd at 11 am at St. Aloysius Church, 254 Burritt St., Plantsville. Everyone is asked to meet at the church. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Friends may call at Woodtick Memorial, 420 Woodtick Rd., Wolcott on Friday from 5 to 8 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the American Cancer Society, 825 Brook St., 1-91 Tech Ctr., Rocky Hill, CT 06067-3045.
