WATERBURY ~ Irene Helen Marie (Martin) Tiscia, 89, of Meadowbrook Dr., passed away on June 16, 2012 at St. Marys Hospital, surrounded by her family. She was the widow of Anthony "Tennessee" Tiscia to whom she was happily married to for 64 years. Mrs. Tiscia was born November 20, 1922 in Waterbury, one of eleven children to the late Arthur Martin Sr. and Rose M. (Rivet) Martin. She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Church and worked as a CNA at St. Marys Hospital for 25 years before her retirement. She was a fan of the UCONN Girls Basketball Team and the N.Y. Yankees. Irene worked on word search puzzles and loved to shop and spend time with her family, especially her grandsons, and great grandson. Her famous meatballs will be greatly missed by many. She helped her friends and neighbors and was a wonderful woman who cared very much and showed her compassion. Irene leaves a daughter, Cynthia Tiscia of Waterbury, a son, Ronald Tiscia Sr. and his wife Lauren of Plymouth, a sister, Edna Capuano of Waterbury, three grandsons, Ronald Tiscia, Jr. and his fianc Kristen, Anthony and Michael Tiscia, a great grandson, Braedan and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her siblings, Armand, Fred, and William Martin, Arthur Martin, Jr., Rose Cordeau, Lillian Terenzi, Aurora McNamara, Germaine Albino-Jannetto, and Eva Gagnon. The family would like to thank the staff in the Emergency Department and the ICU unit, at St. Marys Hospital for their care and comfort they provided to Irene during her stay. A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday at 7:45 am from Woodtick Memorial, 420 Woodtick Rd., Wolcott to St. Francis Xavier Church, Waterbury for a funeral mass at 9 am. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 5 to 8 pm.
