With broken hearts we share the passing of Irene M. (DeCola) Pickett on Sunday January 18, 2026 at the age of 91 peacefully at her home in Wolcott with her loving children by her side. She was the loving wife of the late Robert Pickett Sr. and lived in Wolcott for the last 64 years.

Born in Waterbury on July 30, 1934. Irene was the last living of the seven children of Nicola and Rose (Pesino) DeCola. She worked as an administrative assistant and social worker in several health care facilities in the area. Irene enjoyed gardening, nature, interior decorating, trips to Maine, and the casinos. Most of all by far, she was happy because she married the love of her life and had a wonderful family to care for.

Left to carry on her loving legacy are her daughter Catherine and her husband Art Mencio, her son Robert Pickett Jr., her six grandchildren Ryan Mencio and his wife Alyssa, Drew Mencio and his wife Caitlin, Shanna Mencio-Belcourt and her husband James, Robert Pickett III and his wife Elena, Caitlin Cucolo and her husband Matthew, Babette Steele Ryan ,and her husband Brandon, her eight great grandchildren Mackenzie, Chase, Caiden, Carmine, Christian, Rofina, Brom, and Jaxon, several loving and special nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband Bob, Irene was predeceased by her five sisters, Ida Blasko, Jean Maturo, Lena Lanza, Louise Schlander, Lucy Pugliese, and her brother Frank DeCola.

Friends and family are welcome to celebrate Irene’s life on Saturday January 24th at Woodtick Memorial 420 Woodtick Rd. in Wolcott. Calling hours will be from 1 to 3 PM and her Memorial Service will begin at 3 PM. There is no burial scheduled.
