Obituary

Herman F. Mueller Family man, businessman and distinguished member of the Wolcott Lions Club WOLCOTT- Mr. Herman F. Mueller, 86, beloved husband, best friend, and soulmate of Carole Ann (Plumpton) Mueller passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Monday September 11, 2023. Herman was born in Waterbury on September 1, 1937, son of the late Herman and Hilda (Gyuricsko) Mueller. He graduated from Crosby High School, attended the University of CT and served for 8 years in the US Army Reserves. Herman worked as a painter for over 55 years at the painting and decorating business called Gyuricsko & Mueller Painting that was started by his grandfather in 1925. He took over the business from his father and renamed it H. F. Mueller Painting and Decorating and retired in 2009. Herman was active in youth sports and Cub Scouts while his children were involved in Wolcott sports. Herman and Carole enjoyed attending and cheering on both their son's and grandchildren's sports teams and school activities. They played an active role and were a wonderful influence on their grandchildrens lives. They loved babysitting them when they were young. Herman was a very loving, caring and supportive Poppa. Herman was well known in Wolcott for his accomplishments as a member of the Wolcott Lions Club since 1981. Herman received many awards during his years with the Lions Club. Among his awards were The Melvin Jones Fellow Award, The Lion Of The Year Award and The CT Knight of the Blind Award. He served as President in 1987 and 1988 and Treasurer in 1985 and 1991. He was always active with the Lions Club Annual Fair and was Honorary Fair Chairman twice. He was the "Tent" and the "Barn" Chairman from 1985-1990, and the Oxen and Horse Draw Chairman from 1991 to 1998. In 2022, he was awarded the Distinguished Service Award and the award is named after him as The Lion Herman Mueller Distinguished Service Award. Herman and Carole were world travelers including many bus trips and Ocean and River Cruises. They traveled with many friends and met many new people. They also had a great relationship and made many fond memories with Hermans German side of the family in New Jersey. Herman had a calm, positive personality and was a leader who would make decisions calmly and empower others to do the same. Herman will be fondly remembered by the truly countless number of people whose lives he touched. Herman and Carole would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on October 4th. They met in Waterbury while still in grammar school. They married at a young age and lived in Waterbury for 12 years before moving to Wolcott. They have been in Wolcott for over 52 years. Their marriage was filled with respect, fun and pure love. They were blessed with three sons: Carl and his wife Gina, Kurt and Sue Sylvestre and Ken and his wife Trish. He also had 2 grandsons: Kyle and his wife Jennifer, Preston and his wife Lacee, and four great grandchildren (Matthew George, Blake Thomas, Madison Lynn and Miles Herman). He is also survived by his extended family Steve and Niki Sylvestre and their children Matthew, Lydia and Callie. Hermans family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Bristol Hospital and their Home Care and Hospice At Home Agency for their wonderful support. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are requested to be made to the Wolcott Lions Club PO Box 6063 Wolcott, CT 06716. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at 12 Noon at Woodtick Memorial 420 Woodtick Rd in Wolcott. Calling hours will be Saturday from 10 AM till the start of the Service.
