WOLCOTT ~ Gloria M. (Ponzillo) Brennan, 57 was called to her eternal home of glory, Thursday, March 7, 2013 at the Alzheimers Resource Center surrounded by her family. She was the daughter of the late Alphonse and Carmella Ponzillo of Waterbury. She was predeceased by her brother Michael Ponzillo of Milford, CT.
Gloria was a 1973 graduate of Sacred Heart High School in Waterbury. Shortly thereafter, she became a full time sales clerk for A. Lewis Company in downtown Waterbury. She moved on to work at the Colonial Bank and Trust Company in the late 70s in their payroll department. Shortly after marriage in 1978, she was employed as a sales clerk at Shoprite in Waterbury, but eventually returned to her love of the jewelry business and went to work for G. Fox & Co. and later, Filenes in fine jewelry.
Gloria was a member of the Junior Womens Club of Wolcott and also an active member of
St. Maria Goretti Church where she taught CCD for many years, a calling she truly loved. Gloria also enjoyed bowling with friends on several leagues in Wolcott and Waterbury. She also enjoyed ceramics and was also very skilled in embroidery, needlepoint and knitting, creating over the years many fine wall hangings, rugs and sweaters. A phenomenal baker, she enjoyed making sweets for her family. The holidays were special to her as she enjoyed making chocolates to hand out to family, friends, neighbors and classmates of her son and daughter. Later in life she enjoyed Nicholas Cage movie marathons, visits from family and friends and strolls in the sunshine with her family and caregivers. On days with clouds, she made her own sunshine with her smile for others to enjoy.
Gloria is survived by her husband, Michael R. Brennan of Wolcott, her son, Patrick R. Brennan and his wife, Samantha of Wolcott, her daughter, Meghan K.
