WOLCOTT ~ Geraldine (McNary) Browne, 95, of Wolcott passed away on Sunday, July 10, 2011 at Village Green of Waterbury. She was the widow of Leonard E. Browne.
Mrs. Browne was born January 14, 1916 in Pawtucket, RI, daughter of the late Harold and Anna (Pilling) McNary. She was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII, serving with the Singing Platoon. She was an accomplished pianist who entertained our servicemen and women during the war. She was a graduate of Wilby High School and had attended Post College. Geraldine was an award winning professional dog handler and breeder of boxers. Her dog "Diamond Jim" won the Seneca Boxer Club Championship and several other boxers won championships throughout the U.S. and Canada. She enjoyed golfing, especially at Farmingbury Hills Golf Course, and bowling. In her younger years, she was a Girl Scout Leader and made frequent trips to Cape Cod where she enjoyed fishing.
She leaves her sister, Gertrude Wilbur of Palmetto, FL, a niece, nephew and her caregiver, Raymond Teach, Sr. of Wolcott.
Special thanks is given to the Doctors, nurses, aides, and hospice at the Village Green of Waterbury for the compassion and care that was given to Geraldine during her illness.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Wednesday at 10:30 at Woodtick Memorial, 420 Woodtick Rd., Wolcott. Burial will follow in Old Pine Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 9:30 until the time of the service.
