WOLCOTT ~ George E. Nolan, 80, of Wolcott passed away on Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at the Vitas Unit at St. Marys Hospital. He was the former husband of the late Pauleen (Landry) Nolan.
George was born January 26, 1932 in Ft. Kent, Me, son of the late Mabel Nolan. He was a U.S. veteran of the Korean War serving with the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954. He saw action in Korea, near the DMZ line, serving in the heavy weapons unit and then later drove an Army mail truck. His unit was the last to see combat in Korea and he received the Korean Service Medal with one bronze star, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Combat Infantry Badge. George was a graduate of the Radio Electronics School in New York City. He was an Assistant Scoutmaster in the 1970s for Sacred Heart Boy Scout Troop 13 while his sons were of scouting age. He retired in 1986 from Pratt & Whitney and was a member of the Pratt & Whitney Aircraft Club. George was a lifetime member of the Franco American Social Club and served as its president from 1987 to 1990. George was also a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post 1979 of Wolcott, a lifetime member of the Lozier-OGrady Post in Ft. Kent, ME and a member of the American Legion Post 165 of Wolcott. He was a member of the Waterbury Retired Workers Council and the A.A.R.P.
He leaves his children, Robert Nolan of Becket, MA, John Nolan of Ogden, IL, Jeffrey Nolan and his wife, Maureen of Wolcott, Debra DiBattista and her husband, Tony of Wolcott, Paula Aquilina and her husband, Jim of Farmington, and Christine Nolan-Dack and her husband, Jim of Deerfield Beach, FL, 11 grandchildren, a great granddaughter, and numerous cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at 8:45 am from Woodtick Memorial, 420 Woodtick Rd., Wolcott to the Shrine of St. Anne for a funeral mass at 10 am. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Sunday from 5 to 8 pm.
