Waterbury - George A. Hamel, husband of the late Gertrude (Paquette) Hamel, passed away in Waterbury on October 11, 2014.
George was born in Waterbury, April 19, 1920, son of the late Alphonse and Marie Hamel. He was from a very large family, the last of eleven children. He worked at Timex for several years and retired from Sealectro. George was a gentle man who loved his family dearly, he was always there to lend an ear. He leaves a legacy of strength, love and many cherished memories; we have been blessed to have had him in our lives. He found pleasure in the simplicities of life, he was an avid Yankees fan, loved to bet on horses, along with an occasional trip to the casino.
George is survived by three loving children, Phyllis and her husband William, Gail and her husband Bob, and Bruce and his wife Eileen; seven grandchildren and their spouses, Scott Fennelly and Sandi, Sheila DeJesus and Robert, April Waterman and Matt, Jean Oldham and Jon, Michelle Sturgeon and Ken, Jennifer Fine and Mike, and Bruce Hamel and Jaime; eighteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
At the request of the family services will be private. There are no calling hours.
