Obituary

BRISTOL ~ George A. Edwards, 58, entered into eternal rest on May 22, 2013 at the Vitas Innovative Care Unit at St. Marys Hospital with his loving family at his side following a fearless, nearly six year battle with cancer. He was the son of the late George Frank and Joan Theresa (Duprey) Edwards of Wolcott, and the grandson of the late Rev George W. and Louise (Stein) Edwards, and the late Edward and Stanislawa (Adamski) Duprey. Mr. Edwards graduated from Wolcott High School in 1972 and received his B.S. in Business Management in 1983. He spent several years touring New England and the mid-Atlantic states in various show and dance bands as a talented and passionate drummer/singer before settling in Bristol and teaching college in the 1980s. He owned his own construction firm for over 25 years before retiring in 2008. He went on to earn his building inspectors license with the state of CT. Throughout his battle with cancer he continued to perform, record and write music along with staying active in the construction business and teaching in the Bristol School System. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Christine M (Gule) of Bristol, daughter, Jennifer, sister Cheryl Edwards and grandson Oliver Edwards, all of Wolcott. He was predeceased by his daughter Michelle M. Edwards. Mr. Edwards is also survived by his uncle, the Rev. Canon Paul Edwards, of Fullerton, CA and many cousins in CT, FL, VA and CA. Family meant everything to him, and he fully understood that family is not exclusive to blood relatives. He counted some very special friends in his family circle. Those close to him knew him as a consummate musician and a world class, ferocious drummer who entertained locally for many years. His passing will leave an unfillable void in the lives of those musicians with whom he performed, and the countless number of friends and fans that came to see him play. A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at 11 am at St. Pius X Church, 525 Woodtick Rd., Wolcott followed by burial in Edgewood Cemetery. Friends are asked to meet directly at the church. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 4 to 8 pm at Woodtick Memorial, 420 Woodtick Rd., Wolcott. Memorial gifts may be made to the Vitas Innovative Hospice Care, 1579 Chase Parkway, Suite C, Middlebury, CT 06762 or to the Musicians Union, Local 186, P.O. Box 910, Waterbury, CT 06702.
