Obituary

Meriden - Mr. George Covras, 88, formerly of Waterbury, passed away on Friday November 18, 2011. He became a widow to Mary (Shaker) in 2007 after 59 wonderful years of marriage. George was born in Rockville, CT to the late Nicholas and Susanna (Patrice) Covras on January 6, 1923. In 1987 he retired from the Maintenance Department at Duracell after twenty years of service. George enjoyed watching the Yankees and in earlier years he was an avid bowler and bingo player. He and his wife Mary loved to travel and go to the casino. He is survived by his sister Irene Katechis of Milford, godson, Nicholas Stargu of California, nieces and nephews, Despina and Robert Simon of Meriden, Nicholas Stargu of New Britain, I. John and Diane Stargu of Meriden, Helen and Peter Pappas of Milford, Susanna and David Esposito of Orange, Alan and Marion Lanouette of Wolcott, Gregg and Jill Lanouette of Waterbury, a brother in law, John Stargu of Meriden and several great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Mary Stargu and brother in law, George Katechis. A calling hour will be held on Tuesday from 10:30 to 11:30 am at Woodtick Memorial, 420 Woodtick Rd. Wolcott, CT 06716. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 11:30. Burial will be in the New Pine Grove Cemetery, Waterbury. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718 or to the American Diabetes Association, P.O.
