WOLCOTT ~ Genene (Marzucca) Valletta, 48, of Wolcott passed away at home surrounded by her family and friends after a courageous battle with cancer. She was the widow of David Valletta, Sr.
Genene was born July 25, 1961 in Waterbury, daughter of the late Francis Marzucca and Virginia Zollo. She was a 1979 graduate of Wolcott High School and received her associates degree in criminal justice from Naugatuck Valley Community College in 1997. She worked at the Wolcott Police Department as Emergency Service Department Dispatcher for 25 years. Although she was receiving cancer therapy during the tragedy of September 11, she made and brought cookies to the police and volunteers at Ground Zero. She appeared in an episode of Rescue 911. She was a former police officer in Wolcott for 1986 and 1987. Genene was an avid Disney fan and enjoyed hiking, bird watching, camping, and spending time outdoors. She was a member of the Wolcott Republican Town Committee. She enjoyed listening to music and was a Charlie Daniels fan. Genene loved her family and was always ready to help anyone in need.
Besides her husband of 25 years, Genene leaves her sons, David Valletta, Jr. and Nathaniel of Wolcott, her brothers, Jerry Zollo and his fiance Tammy Berberat of Prospect, and George Zollo and his wife, Marie of Southington, several nieces, nephews and cousins. She also leaves her best friends, Bette Roy and Rene Johnpiere of Wolcott.
The Valletta family would like to thank the Town of Wolcott and the Wolcott Police Department for all their support and care.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Wednesday at 10 am at Woodtick Memorial, 420 Woodtick Rd., Wolcott. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5 to 8 pm.
