LOVING HUSBAND AND FATHER
WOLCOTT ~ Frederick Mendyka, Sr., 84, of Wolcott passed away on Wednesday, July 28, 2010 after a long illness. He was the devoted husband of Mary (Bento) Mendyka. Mr. Mendyka was born March 8, 1926 in Waterbury, son of the late Andrew and Victoria (Dobasz) Mendyka. He was a WWII veteran having served with the U.S. Army and he retired from Anaconda American Brass after 35 years of service. He was a communicant of St. Stanislaus Kostka Church and the Church Society. He was a member of the Charles Rietdyke Senior Center, the VFW Post 1979, the American Legion and the Bristol Fish & Game Club. He was the President of the Wolcott Senior Association. His hobbies included hunting, fishing and spending time with family and friends.
Besides his loving wife of 57 years, he leaves his son, Frederick Mendyka, Jr. and his wife, Eileen of Anderson, S.C., his daughters, Kathy Fortier and her husband, Richard of Southington, and Alison Nawaraskas of Wolcott, his sister, Irene Rovero of Torrence, CA, his grandchildren, Emily and Vicki Mendyka, Joseph and Danielle Nawaraskas, Shawn and Megan Fortier and a good neighbor and friend, Gary Dalton.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, July 31, 2010 at 10 am at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, 86 East Farm St., Waterbury. Friends are asked to meet directly at the church. Calling hours will be held today from 5 to 8 pm at Woodtick Memorial, 420 Woodtick Rd., Wolcott. Burial with military honors will follow in Edgewood Cemetery.
