Obituary

Francis Roy Neville Lakeland, Florida –

It is with profound sadness that the family of Francis "Frank" Neville, age 84, of Lakeland, FL, formerly of Naugatuck, CT, share the news of his peaceful passing on Friday, August 8, 2025, in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his loving family after a brief illness. Frank was the widower of Irene Neville, whom he has been reunited with once again.

Frank was born in Waterbury, CT on February 25, 1941 to Leila (Fox) and Joseph Neville. The oldest of 8 children, he grew up and attended schools in Cheshire, CT. At the age of 18, Frank joined the Navy in Norfolk, VA, where he served as a sonar technician on the USS John King DDG-3. He was an original crew member of the ship and proud plank owner. His service took him to the Caribbean and Mediterranean Seas and eventually back home to Connecticut. Upon his return from Naval services, he met and fell in love with Irene Bakutis. They married on March 7, 1964 and settled in Naugatuck, CT. Together they raised 3 children and built a life in a neighborhood where they made many friends and were well loved. While raising his family he worked as a Quality Inspector at Avco Lycoming Textron for many years until his retirement. Following that he went back to work part-time as a bus driver for the Southbury school system, a job he thoroughly enjoyed and one where he was loved by many students. Several years ago, he and Irene moved to Florida where together they enjoyed retirement with many of their children and grandchildren.

Frank was predeceased by his wife, Irene and his sister Gail Harrison. He leaves behind a large, loving family including his daughter Francine (Neville) Careddu of Lakeland, his sons Thomas Neville of Waterbury, CT and Mark (Cindy) Neville of Lakeland. He also leaves behind his siblings, Susan (Joseph) Magaraci, Bruce (Diane) Neville, Jacqueline Voegeli, Shawn Neville, Patricia Neville and Tracy (Gary) Sullivan. In addition, he leaves many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
