Obituary

Wolcott - Mrs. Florence (Manzo) Marino, 103, of Wolcott, passed away on Wednesday morning, August 20 at Wolcott View Manor. Florence was born on August 28, 1910 in Waterbury, daughter of the late Catello and Maria (DAuria) Manzo. She lived in a house in the Schiavonnes block on S. Main St, across from Our Lady of Lourdes Church. She attended Croft Elementary School and Wilby High School and graduated in 1928. She spent all of her working years as a bookkeeper. Florence married Frederick Marino on January 1, 1935. They had four children, Leonard, Charles, Carol and Florence. They lived in Waterbury until 1949 when they moved to Wolcott. Her husband, Frederick died in 1968 and Florence lived alone until she was 100 years old. She was very active in various organizations in Wolcott throughout her life. She was active in every aspect of her childrens school life from PTA president, to Ways and Means chairperson. She was also very involved in the beginnings of the Wolcott Elementary Schools library systems. Florence was active in many political and civic organizations. She was a life member of the Grange and the American Legion Auxiliary. She also belonged to the Womens Club, the Wolcott Historical Society and the Friends of the Wolcott Library. She was on the building committee for both St. Pius and St. Maria Goretti Churches and was involved in many activities at both of these churches throughout her life. She was very active in the Democratic Party for most of her life and served as Deputy Registrar of Voters for that party for many years. In her later years she was president of AARP and an active member of the Wolcott Senior Center. She bowled with her friends at Perillos Bowling on a league until her early 90s. She enjoyed lunches at the Center until she was 101 and so many fond memories of all of her friends there. A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, August 23, at 10:00 A.M. at St. Maria Goretti Church, 1300 Woodtick Rd., Wolcott. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Family and friends may call on Friday evening, August 22 from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at Woodtick Memorial, 420 Woodtick Rd., Wolcott. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are asked to be made in Florences name to The Wolcott Historical Society, P.O. Box 6410, Wolcott, CT 06716 or the Friends of Wolcott Library, 469 Boundline Road, Wolcott, CT 06716
