Wolcott- Mrs. Elaine (Redding) Sullivan, 81, passed away on Tuesday, June 10, at Waters Edge in Middletown. She was the widow of John K. Sullivan.
Mrs. Sullivan was born October 27, 1932 in Waterbury, daughter of the late Thomas and Mary (Ryan) Redding. Raised in Waterbury she was a graduate of Crosby High School class of 1949 and a graduate of St. Josephs College. She had been employed as a dietician at St. Marys Hospital. After the passing of her husband she returned to work as a teacher in the Waterbury school system while attending Southern Connecticut State University where she received her Masters degree. She then received her 6th year certificate from St. Josephs College. She retired as a special education teacher in 1992. She then went on to her career in nursing, receiving her degree in nursing as an RN and worked at Meridian Manor and then as a hospice volunteer for the VNA.
Mrs. Sullivan was a member of the Farmingbury Womens Club, the Waterbury and Connecticut Retired Teachers Associations, the St. Josephs College Alumni Association, the Southern Connecticut State University Alumni Association and was a communicant of St. Pius X Church and a member of Ladies Guild and Rosary Society.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary S. Waszkelewicz and her husband Michael of Marlborough; her son John R. Sullivan and his wife Julie Isidro of Middletown; her daughter Ann Sullivan of Walpole, NH; eight grandchildren, Brett and Kyle Waszkelewicz, Jennifer and Daniel Sullivan, Michelle Bittel and her husband James, John, Katie and Meaghan Sullivan and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son Patrick J. Sullivan and her sister Mary Alice Barry.
Arrangements: A mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, June 14, at 11:00 A.M. at St. Pius X Church in Wolcott. Committal will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Waterbury. There are no calling hours. Arrangements are in the care Woodtick Memorial 420 Woodtick Rd. Wolcott.
