Obituary

WOLCOTT ~ Edwin "Ed" Gammon, Jr., 83, of Wolcott passed away on Saturday, October 15, 2011 at St. Marys Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Mary (Carey) Gammon. Ed was born April 15, 1928 in Philadelphia, PA, son of the late Edwin and Isabel (Nelson) Gammon, Sr. He was a U.S. veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy during WWII and the Korean War. Ed attended the Rhode Island School of Design and retired from Bostitch, a division of Stanley Works after 20 years of service. He and his wife operated the Monogram Store, for many years. Most recently, he had been employed by Costco in the Member Service Dept. At the age of 50, he became a member of the Hartford Track Club, and ran 18 marathons to receive several awards. He was a Little League coach for the Wolcott Midget Football League and was fondly known as the "Gator Ade Man". He was also president of the Wolcott Baseball League and a Cub Scout leader. For many years, he collected funds for the Childrens Miracle Network and was a member of the Charles Rietdyke Senior Center. He enjoyed traveling, especially to Atlantic City, and taking memorable cruises with Mary. Besides his wife, Mary of 63 years, he leaves his son, Edwin Gammon, III and his wife, Cheryl of Watertown, his daughter, Susan Gammon of Waterbury, and his brother Earl Gammon and his wife, Nora of PA. He was predeceased by his sister, Myrtle Hankins. He will be missed by his constant companion, Fluffy. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 9 am from Woodtick Memorial, 420 Woodtick Rd., Wolcott to St. Pius X Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10. Burial will follow in Edgewood Cemetery, Wolcott. Friends may call at Woodtick Memorial, 420 Woodtick Rd., Wolcott on Wednesday from 5 to 8 pm.
