WATERBURY- Mr. Edmund J VanPelt, 82, of Wakelee Rd. formerly of Newtown, passed away on December 18, 2013. He was the husband to Gayle (Costanzo) VanPelt for 24 years. Edmund was born in Brooklyn, NY to the late Louis and Elizabeth (Cunningham) VanPelt. He attended Bellows High School in Mamaroneck, NY where he is remembered for his track record for the one half mile racing time of: 1:57.7. He was very active and athletic with swimming, running, dancing, love of music, dancing and living life. He was also a fan of all sports. He Joined the US Air Force and seved his country honorably for 12 years in Korea and Japan. He received the national defense service medal, good conduct medal, Korean Service medal, UN service medal and the Air Force Longevity service award. He is survived by the love of his life, his wife, Gayle Van Pelt. He is also survived by three children, Debbie Duffy of, NY, Raymond Stevens of Middletown, CT and Christopher L. Stevens of Florida, Trisha Blank a grandchild of New Milford, 16 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. A celebration of life service will be held Saturday at 10:30am at Woodtick Memorial, 420 Woodtick Rd. Wolcott. Friends may gather from 9 am till the time of the service. Burial will follow in the Veterans Cemetery in Middletown. Memorial Contributions may be made to the charity of the donors choice.
