SOUTHINGTON ~ Doris (Evon) Nihan, 86 passed away surrounded by family members at the Southington Care Center on Tuesday, February 28, 2012. Born January 21, 1926 in Waterbury to the late Napoleon and Emma Evon, Doris is survived by six children, Donna Nihan Foucaud and her husband, James D., Bernard Nihan and his wife, Ella, Dan Nihan and Jean Smith, Melody Nihan Brasile and her husband, Thomas, Thomas Nihan and his wife, Debra, Michael John Nihan and his wife, Roseanna; six grandchildren, Douglas Nihan, Brooke Nihan, Garrett Nihan and his wife, Melissa, Brie Nihan, Michael Louis Nihan and his wife, Jessica, and Victoria Nihan. Doris Nihan is predeceased by five sisters, Jane Hughson, Bertha DeSantis, Rose Lussier, Louise Cuddy, Evelyn Padaigas and five brothers, Alfred Evon, Sr., Eugene Evon, James Evon, Louis Evon, and Richard Evon. Mrs. Nihan was the last of her siblings to pass on. Doris was also predeceased by her husband, Dana B. Nihan. Doris and Dana met in Waterbury in 1945 and were married at the Shrine of St. Anne in June of 1946. Doris and Dana made their home in Littleton, NH, later moving to Waterbury to be closed to Doris large and loving family. She held many jobs throughout her life, retiring from Anaconda Brass in 1983, always focused on raising and supporting her children who were the center of her world. She loved volunteering and did so for Meals on Wheels, the YMCA Day Care and as a patient escort at the VA Medical Center in West. Haven. Doris, an avid fisherwoman, taught her sons and grandson Doug to fish and enjoy the outdoors. She loved family gatherings in her warm and always welcoming home. She enjoyed traveling to the National Parks, a good steak dinner, music, dancing and her beloved pets. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 8:30 am from Woodtick Memorial, 420 Woodtick Rd., Wolcott to the Shrine of St. Anne for a funeral mass at 10 am. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 5 to 8 pm. Memorial gifts may be made to the Alzheimers Resource Center of CT, Inc., 1261 South Main St., Plantsville, CT 06479.
