Obituary

Donald Eugene Fortier, 85, passed away peacefully at his home in Wolcott on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. For the past 64 years, he was the devoted and beloved husband of Patricia (Reed) Fortier.

Born in Waterbury on September 24, 1940, Don was the son of the late Gene and Irene (Guara) Fortier. He was predeceased by two brothers and three sisters. Don was also predeceased by his longtime friend Joe Valente.

Don proudly served in the United States Marine Corps, and while stationed in Hawaii in 1959, witnessed its historic admission as the 50th state.

Following his military service, Don worked as a cable splicer for SNET, retiring after more than 30 years of dedicated service.

A true outdoorsman, Don was an avid hunter and took great pride in caring for his yard. He and Pat also shared a love of travel, making three memorable RV trips across the United States — journeys that took them all the way to Alaska.

In addition to his wife, Patricia, Don leaves behind his four sons and their families: Kenneth and his wife, Jane; Michael and his wife, Jonna; Keith and his wife, Susan; and David and his wife, Sharon. He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, twelve great‑grandchildren, and many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.

The Fortier family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Jennifer, who has been a wonderful aide and compassionate caregiver to both Pat and Don. They also wish to thank VITAS Healthcare for their support and kindness.

Graveside services with military honors will be held on Saturday, June 27, at 11:30 AM in New Pine Grove Cemetery, 850 Meriden Rd., Waterbury. Everyone is asked to meet directly at the cemetery before 11:30 AM. Woodtick Memorial is honored to serve the Fortier family.
