WATERBURY ~ Denise Marie (Frechette) LeBlanc, the oldest child of Roland and Marie-Ange (Lemieux) Frechette was born November 5, 1935. Raised in the neighborhoods of Waterburys South End, Denise attended St. Annes School and Waterbury Catholic Girls High School.
Denise began her career while in high school employed as a clerk at Apothecary Corner, and then moved onto the business office of Loehmanns Chevrolet. While raising her children, she worked part-time as an enumerator for the U.S. Federal Census Bureau. Denise retired as the Executive Assistant for the City of Waterbury, Waste Treatment Facility.
She enjoyed being a member of the French Canadian community, actively involved in the Federation Feminine Franco-Americaine, local Chapter Cercle Marie-Ange, a group of which her mother was a founding member. She served as president, secretary and treasurer for the Union St.-Jean de Baptiste, Conseil Villa Maria #149, throughout her adult life. Denise was an avid genealogist and spent countless hours chronicling family records and achievements past and present in the Union St. Jean de Baptiste libraries and as a member of the Connecticut French Genealogical Society.
Denise began her own family, Monday, July 4, 1960 when she wed her love of 51 years, Gaspard LeBlanc. Together, they were a team, raising their children and traveling across North America. They managed to visit 49 states, all the Canadian Provinces and a brief stop into Mexico.
The family they led includes Michele and Philip of Waterbury, along with David and his wife, Eileen (Malinowski) of Southington. Denise treasured her family, especially being Memere to Micheles son, David Slamons, of Waterbury, and Davids children, Caitlin Geary of Me, and Emilene, James and Jillian LeBlanc of Southington. A special place is held for her great granddaughter, Maddelynn Bubier of ME.
Denise was predeceased by her parents, her brother Andre Frechette of AZ and sister Elizabeth (Frechette) Pollack of FL sister-in-law, Atsuko (Harihara) Frechette of RI, her in-laws, Bernard, Fernand and Lillian (Michaud) of Waterbury, Adrienne (LeBlanc) and John Butkus of Naugatuck, and Phyliss (Hersch) LeBlanc of MA.
She is survived by her siblings, Roland and Carol (Rembish) Frechette of Southington, Madeleine (Frechette) and Anthony Meurer of AR and AK, Jacqueline Frechette of CA and Jean-Pierre Frechette of Groton. Her in-laws, Theresa (LeBlanc) Duplessie, Reno and Verna (Desbiens)LeBlanc of ME, Roland and Rita (Forest) LeBlanc, Claire (Picard) LeBlanc, all of Waterbury, and Gerald LeBlanc of Newington.
Denise will be remembered in the hearts of the many cousins, nieces and nephews throughout this country that she loved to travel.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, September 17, 2011 at 10 am at the Shrine of St. Anne, 515 South Main St., Waterbury. Family and friends are asked to meet directly at the church.
