WOLCOTT- David Conrad Herbst, longtime resident of Wolcott, CT passed away at his home on February 7, 2012, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband to Cynthia (Spencer) Herbst for 52 years. David was born August 26, 1930, in Waterbury, CT, the son of the late Clifford G. and Eleanor (Penney) Herbst. He attended and graduated from Waterbury schools. David entered the Air Force in 1950, achieving the rank of Airman First Class. After working many years in Wall Streets financial district, David assumed the presidency of Eastern Metalcraft, Inc., the family business in Wolcott. He retired in 1985. In the early 70s, David was an active member in the Wolcott Republican Town Committee and was on the Wolcott Library Building Committee. David was also a member of the NAWCC for over 30 years. Among his many hobbies and interests he was most happy when sailing or in later years working in his basement. Besides his wife Cynthia, he is survived by his daughters, Sharon Adams and her husband Jeffrey of Conyers, GA, Eleanor Ramirez and her husband Mike of Wolcott, and Susan Sutton and her husband Raymond of Port Orchard, WA, his nine grandchildren, Jessica Adams and David Adams of Conyers, GA, Christopher Beausoleil and his wife, Angela of Bristol, Mike Ramirez of Wolcott, Angela Ramirez of Waterbury, Laura Sutton, Madeline Sutton, Nicholas Sutton, and Richard Sutton of Port Orchard, WA, two great-grandchildren, Olivia "Rosie" Beausoleil and Lucas Sutton, his sister, Laura McCarthy and her husband James of Milford and a brother, Richard Herbst of Palo Alto, CA. A memorial service will be held at Woodtick Memorial on February 18, at 11am. Family and friends may gather at 10am.
