Little River, SC Clayton L. Murphy of Little River, SC, previously of Plymouth, CT, passed away March 11, 2018 at his home at the age of 95. He was the widower of Jeanette (Cormier) Murphy, and Loretta (Strick) Murphy. Clayton was born on Feb. 20, 1923 in Naugatuck, son of the late Richard and Mary (Fredricks) Murphy. He was a graduate of Naugatuck High School. Clayton served in WWII aboard the U.S.S. Baltimore, a heavy cruiser which transported President Franklin D. Roosevelt to Hawaii for a conference aboard a ship with Admiral Nimitz, General MacArthur, Admiral Leahy, and Correspondent Elmer Davis. He also worked at several manufacturing companies throughout the years. Clayton is survived by three sons, Thomas (Laurie), and Richard of Waterbury, and Robert (Kathleen) of Long Beach, CA; three daughters Judy Schmidt of Ormond Beach, FL, Eileen of Waterbury, and Nancy (Tom) Dunlap of Wolcott; two grandchildren Tom Murphy and Kelsey Dunlap; three great-grandchildren, Angela, Joseph, and Christopher Murphy; and two stepchildren, Fran Marrello of Plymouth, and Sharon Croteau (Ed) of Longs, SC; two sisters, Lorraine Burdge of North Haven and Marilyn Goudreault of Naugatuck. He was predeceased by his daughter Kathleen Simpson; his son-in-law Jack Schmidt; two brothers LeRoy and Richard. Claytons family would like to thank his caregiver Mary for all of her kindness and compassion. A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at 9:00 A.M. at St. Francis Xavier Church, 625 Baldwin St., Waterbury. Burial will be held privately in Calvary Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
