Obituary

Cecile L. Berry, age 81, of Waterbury, died Sunday, September 1, 2024 after many brave years of chronic illness. Ceil was born May 27, 1943 in Waterbury, daughter of the late Adrien Bellemare and Lucia (Bernier) Bellemare. She was a lifelong resident of Waterbury and a familiar face at Stop & Shop on Chase Avenue for 24 years before retiring in 2009. She was a devout communicant of the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception and St. Michael Church. Her favorite pastimes included singing, dancing, playing bingo, pressing her luck at the casinos with her sister Claire and making others laugh with her special brand of sarcastic humor. Ceil was predeceased by her husband James who passed away in 2013 shortly after celebrating their 48th wedding anniversary. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her siblings Roger Bellemare, Normand Bellemare, Georgette Beland, Yvette West and Irene Bellemare. She is survived by her sisters Theresa Lavoie and Claire Katilius and her brother Ronald Bellemare and his wife Linda. She is also survived by her daughter Cindy Sullivan of Kentucky, her husband Keith and his daughters Shannon and Krissy; her son Jason of Danbury, his wife Adriana and her children Nicolas, Dani and Andrea; and her daughter Colleen Conway of Southington, her husband Chris and their son Desmond. She was aunt to 22 nieces and nephews. Her family is grateful for the care provided by those at NCE Homecare, Waterbury Hospital and Complete Care at Glendale. Her children will forever appreciate those who supported Ceils independence and provided her companionship including Sandra Lemos, devoted neighbors Emilio, Maribel, Melissa and Victor, and longtime friend Gloria Eggleton. A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, September 12th at St. Michael Church, 62 St. Michaels Drive in Waterbury. Calling hours are Wednesday, September 11th from 5 to 8 p.m. at Woodtick Memorial, 420 Woodtick Rd. in Wolcott. Burial will be private.
