Waterbury Carmen Cruz, 89, passed away on Saturday, June 6, 2020. She was the wife of the late Alejandro Cruz Sr. Carmen was born in Isabela, Puerto Rico on July 16, 1930, daughter of the late Olivo Martinez and Belen Corchado. She retired form Anchor Fasteners in Waterbury after 25 years. She enjoyed playing the slot machines at the casino. Carmen was a loving mother and grandmother and treasured time spent with her family. She always had coffee ready and made sure everyone was fed. Carmen leaves behind her children, Alexander Cruz Jr., and his wife, Liz, of Wolcott; her daughter, Carmen Shoaib, of Waterbury; her grandchildren, Glenda Rodriguez; Vanessa Rodriguez; Ramiro "Pete" Rodriguez; Alex Cruz III; and Alexis Cruz; her great grandchildren, Cayden; Frankie; Eli; and Arianna. Including her husband, Alejandro, Carmen is predeceased by her son, David Cruz; and grandsons, Victor Rodriguez and Jason Cruz. A calling hour will be held on Friday, June 12 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Woodtick Memorial, 420 Woodtick Road, Wolcott. A funeral home service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. Attendees must wear a mask and practice social distancing.
