Obituary

We sadly announce the sudden passing of Carl Arthur Mathieu, 79, on Thursday October 23, 2025 at his home in Bristol.

Carl was born on July 5, 1946 in Portland, ME, son of the late Arthur J. and Fernande (LeClaire) Mathieu. He served in the US Air Force during the Vietnam Era and was a member of the VFW Post 1979 in Wolcott. He was a retired employee of the Waterbury Republican Newspaper where he worked for over 30 years. Carl was a quiet unassuming man who enjoyed reading especially historical materials and was an avid stamp and coin collector. Carl resided in Bristol for the last 20 years and attended St. Joseph Church.

He is survived by his two brothers Eldred "Butch" and his wife Teri Mathieu, Michael and his wife Fran Mathieu, his sister Sandra Lumbard, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother David Mathieu and his sister Nancy Pratt.

Friends and family are invited to attend a Funeral Mass on Friday October 31, 2025 at St. Joseph Church 149 Goodwin St. Bristol beginning at 10 AM. Burial with full military honors will be at 1 PM at the CT State Veteran's Cemetery, 317 Bow Ln., Middletown, CT. Carl's family will receive condolences immediately following the Mass. There will NOT be a procession to the CT Veteran's Cemetery in Middletown. The graveside services with military honors is scheduled to begin at 1 PM.
