WATERBURY ~ Bronis Walter Sharkis passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at St. Marys Hospital. Sharkey, as he was affectionately known by his friends, was a compassionate man devoted to the care of his family. He was the husband of 64 years to Laurianne (Laliberte) Sharkis who passed away on February 5th of this year. It is well that they are reunited again in peace after such a short time apart.
Bronis was born in Waterbury on April 10, 1925, son of the late Ludwig (Louis) and Anele (Nellie) Sharkis. A life long resident of Waterbury, he had many fond memories of growing up in the Brooklyn neighborhood, duckpin bowling at St. Josephs and fishing at all the area lakes and ponds.
He served his country with distinction enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1943 and participated in the landings at Luzon and Okinawa. He was a life member and past officer of VFW Post 8075. Upon his return home after the war, he went to work at Scovill Manufacturing as a tool grinder. He remained employed at Scovills through its acquisition by Century Brass and retired from that firm upon their closure.
Bronis is survived by his four children: Theresa Bolduc (Douglas) of Southbury; Diane Grant (Robert) of Watertown; David Sharkis (Cheryl) of Waterbury; and Stephen Sharkis (Robin) of Tolland, In addition to his wife Laurianne, he was predeceased by his daughter, Sandra Pisani and his brother, Stanley Sharkis.
Bronis is survived by several nieces and nephews as well as nine grandchildren; John Pisani, Rhonda Bates, Deborah Trup, Lucas Bolduc, Melissa Sharkis, Daniel Sharkis, Jamie Sharkis, Brendan Sharkis and Caden Sharkis, born on March 17th of this year. He was blessed with three great grandchildren; Nicholas, Ava, and Aiden.
The family would like to thank the Cheshire House Staff for the care and support that Sharkey received while a resident.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at 10 am at Woodtick Memorial, 420 Woodtick Rd., Wolcott. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
