Daniel Joseph DeBarba, Sr. passed away peacefully at his home in Wolcott on December 25, 2025, with his wife Joyce and family lovingly by his side. Dan was 84 years old.
Born on March 31, 1941 to Albert and Nora (Carney) DeBarba, Dan grew up in Waterbury and Wolcott, Connecticut with his three siblings Albert, Jr., Noreen and Margaret, along with many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends nearby.
Dan and Joyce were married in 1962 and lived in Waterbury until 1966 when they purchased a home on Hitchcock Lake in Wolcott. There, they raised two sons who adored their father. Dan spent countless hours teaching his sons how to swim, boat and play golf. He took them camping and coached their teams, leaving them with the fondest of memories.
Dan was strong willed and stubborn at times, but he also had an enormous heart and wonderful sense of humor. He was generous, loyal and courageous. Dan was clever and could fix or build anything. He loved antique cars and restored many during his life, including his beloved 1931 Hupmobile. Dan was also an avid collector of clocks and owned and repaired thousands over his lifetime – Bavarian cuckoo clocks were among his favorites. He was a wonderful musician who enjoyed entertaining his family and friends while playing the accordion, organ and piano – if it had a keyboard, he could play it.
Dan will be remembered for all the love he shared with his family and many friends. He is survived by wife Joyce; son Daniel J. DeBarba, Jr. and wife Lynn; son Michael A. DeBarba and wife Lisa; brother Albert DeBarba and wife Joan; and sister Margaret Way and husband Peter. Dan is also survived by his grandchildren Michelle, Joshua, Gregory, Michael and Nicole along with great-grandchildren Sophia, Grayson and Camila.
Dan was predeceased by his sister Noreen Fragola and husband Richard. He was a friend of Bill W for 59 years.
Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, December 30, 2025 at St. Pius X Church, 525 Woodtick Road in Wolcott. Please meet directly at the church.
Visitation hours are from 4 pm to 7 pm on Monday, December 29, 2025 at Woodtick Memorial, 420 Woodtick Road in Wolcott. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
