WOLCOTT- It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Armand Marchand "The Chief", 95, beloved husband for the last 63 years of Carol (Benson) Marchand on Sunday March 9, 2025 at Complete Care at Middlebury.
Armand was born in Champlain, P.Q. Canada on December 23, 1929. He came to the US in 1953 and began working for his uncle Rene Marchand, owner of Waterbury Auto Spring. During the Korean Conflict, he was drafted and stationed at Fort Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska. At that time, he became a US citizen. He returned to Waterbury and worked for Scovill Manufacturing and retired from Century Brass.
Armand and Carol owned and operated Mohawk Ski School in Cornwall, CT beginning in 1961 until 2008. Their love of skiing and sailing led to many trips throughout the world. Skiing in the US, Canada, and Europe along with many friends. Based out of the Westbrook, CT Marina, they sailed the eastern coastline and also ventured into many Caribbean Island ports. They were parishioners of St. Pius X / St. Basil Parish in Wolcott where they resided for many years. Armand was also a member of the Elks Club in Waterbury, the NAVA Ski Club, and the American Legion in Wolcott.
Armand is survived by his wife Carol, his brother -in-law Joel (Judith) Benson of FL, his sister-in-law Claire (Christopher) Vastola of Wolcott, along with many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Ubald and Deloris Marchand, he was predeceased by his eleven siblings all of Canada, his brother-in-law Rolfe Benson and sister-in-law Joan B. Henry.
