WOLCOTT ~ Ann (Miskel) Lebel, 83, of Wolcott died peacefully at her home on Sunday, August 28, 2011. She was the widow of Philip Lebel.
Ann was born August 10, 1928, a native of Sugar Notch, Pennsylvania. She moved to Waterbury in 1946, where she enrolled in St. Marys Hospital School of Nursing. It was as a student nurse that she met the love of her life, Philip Lebel. She earned her R.N. in 1949 and she and Phil were wed in 1950.
Ann was a nurse for many years at St. Marys Hospital, with her last years there, in the 60s and 70s, spent on the Labor and Delivery floor. She then worked for the WIC Program in Waterbury until her retirement in 1998. There she enjoyed working with the children, and made many friends. Ann was a proud and dedicated nurse, but it was her family that was her consuming passion. She loved her four children ferociously, and her concern for them never ended. Woe to the child who arrived home later that expected----a call to 911 was moments away. This concern continued long after theyd left the nest, and two of them gave her grandchildren to love---and worry about, of course.
As empty nesters, Ann and Phil took up golf, and were finally able to do some traveling. They particularly enjoyed cruises. After Phil died in 2009, their best friends Bill and Lorraine Gladding, also of Wolcott, continued to spend happy times with Ann. Together they enjoyed bowling, movies, and good food.
During her final illness, Ann was able to remain at home, thanks to the excellent services provided by VNA Healthcare.
She is survived by her four children, Dr. Diane Lebel and her husband, Dr. N. Alan Harris of West Boylston, MA, Mark Lebel and his wife, Palma of New Hartford, John Lebel of Ansonia, and Philip Lebel and his wife, Lisa of Wolcott, her granddaughter, Sarah , grandsons, Jason and Philip A., and several nieces and nephews.
