Obituary

With broken hearts we announce that on Friday January 23, 2026 our dear mother and grandmother Mrs. Ann (Smith) April went to join her beloved husband Renald A. April who passed on Christmas Day in 2020.

Ann was born in Glasgow, Scotland on August 28, 1946, daughter of the late James and Annie (Grady) Smith. In the early 60's, she came to the US as a Nanny to a family in Malibu, California. She eventually followed them to Las Vegas for a short stint. One day, one of her girlfriends Liz reached out to her and invited her to come live with her in Waterbury,CT. Ann agreed. Soon after moving here, she took a job at Dunkin Donuts where she met some French guy Ronnie. That was the start to their love story.

For over 35 years she worked at Bradlees on Reidville Dr. in Waterbury until they closed February 2001. She also worked at Webster Bank until her retirement.

Ann loved her cats, Maxine and Lucy, enjoyed reading and crocheting but most of all she was devoted to her family. She was a lifelong supporter of several charities including ASPCA, St. Jude, and the CT Humane Society.

Left to carry on her loving legacy are her son James April and his wife Jacqueline, her daughter Michelle Musco and her husband Louis, her two grandchildren Olivia Capobianco and Christopher Capobianco Jr. She also leaves her brother and sister James and Sally Smith of Scotland, Sister-in-law Nancy April, and many nieces and nephews here and abroad.

At her request, all funeral services are private and at the convenience of her family. Our parents, Ann and Ronnie, will be interred together on November 2, 2026, which would have been there 58th wedding anniversary, at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Watertown, CT.

Woodtick Memorial is honored to serve the April family, and you may visit www.woodtickmemorial.com for online tributes and condolences.
