ANDREW J. CAVANAUGH, SR.
WOLCOTT ~ Andrew J. Cavanaugh, Sr., 64 of Wolcott passed away on September 20th at Waterbury Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Sheila (Barrett) Cavanaugh.
Mr. Cavanaugh was born June 12, 1945 in Waterbury, son of the late Andrew L. and Mary (Dillon) Cavanaugh. He retired from the Waterbury Police Department as a Police Officer and the U.S. Marshals Office in Hartford. He received the "Man of The Year" award for outstanding service in 1982. He was the President of the Waterbury Police Union Board in 1982. He enjoyed sports and was an avid Yankees and Patriots fan. Andrew loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, who he affectionately called his "Bubbas".
Besides his wife of 37 years, he leaves his son, Andrew J. Cavanaugh, Jr. and his wife Gretchen of Wolcott, his daughter Kerri Plourde and her husband Shane of Wolcott, his brother, Owen Cavanaugh and his wife Lorraine of Southbury, his grandchildren, Brady, Andrew and Taylor and all of his extended family. He was predeceased by his brother, Daniel Cavanaugh.
The Cavanaugh family would like to thank Dr. Belsmid, Dr. Champi, Dr. Ruggerio and the staff at Waterbury Hospital for their compassionate care during Andrews illness.
A Celebration of Life service will take place on Thursday from 5 to 8 pm at Woodtick Memorial, 420 Woodtick Rd., Wolcott. A time of sharing will be held at 7:30 pm. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
