Waterbury – Mr. Torrence “T.C” McCombs, 84, passed away at his home on Wednesday evening, December 27. He was the husband of the late Shirley L. (Cook) McCombs.
T.C. was born December 6, 1933 in Richeyville, PA, son of the late Robert O. and Iva Mae (Hatch) McCombs. He had served honorably in the United States Navy for 20 years, retiring as an E-6 Field Service Mechanic. He served on the USS Bennington, the USS Sperry, the USS Ethan Allen, the USS Irex and the USS Midway and had taught at the Naval Submarine School in Groton. He had served thru the Korean War, the Cold War and the Vietnam War.
He is survived by three sons, Scott A. McCombs of Waterbury, William R. McCombs of Claremont, NH and Steven P. McCombs of Litchfield; one daughter, Laura E. Martin and her husband Allen of Royalston, MA; one brother, Thomas McCombs of FL; three sisters, Helen Crocket of PA, Betty McCormick of OH and Pearl Cook of Naugatuck; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 3, at 11:00 A.M. at Woodtick Memorial 420 Woodtick Rd. Wolcott. Friends may call at the funeral home from 9:00 A.M. until time of service. Burial with full military honors will follow in the Connecticut State Veterans Cemetery in Middletown.
