Tribute

Wolcott – Sophie “Babe” Pitino, 95, passed away on Wednesday, December 16, 2020. She was the wife of the late Joseph Pitino. 

 

Sophie was born in New Britain on September 7, 1925, daughter of Joseph and Mary (Grabowski) Karwacki. She grew up in Union City, Naugatuck, and attended St. Hedwig School. Sophie worked for Naugatuck Glass Company; and her brother in law’s company, Puritan Cleaners, in Waterbury for many years. Joe and Sophie enjoyed their golden years at their winter residence in Fort Myers as Florida snowbirds for 27 years. She also enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family. She will be dearly missed. 

 

Sophie leaves behind her children Judy Caisse and her husband Tom of Florida, Rosalie Saginario of Wolcott, Manny Pitino and his wife Lori of Wolcott, Joan Jensen and her husband John of Wolcott. Her grandchildren Eric Caisse and his wife Entela of Florida, Joseph Pitino and partner Kelly of Wolcott, Rachel Pitino and partner Tommy of Wolcott, Anthony Pitino of Florida, Michael Saginario of Wolcott, Julie Saginario of Wolcott, Glenn Jensen of Wolcott, Christopher Jensen and his partner Shania of Wolcott; her great grandchildren Hailie, Kristian, Corbyn, Ivy, Alexander, Charlotte; and her sisters, Hedwig Mezzo; and Cecil Imbimbo; and other extended family. 

 

Including her husband of 57 years, Joseph, Sophie was predeceased by her brother, Walter Karwacki; and her son in law, Dennis Saginario. 

 

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9 a.m. on Monday, December 21 at St. Pius X Church, 525 Woodtick Road, Wolcott. Meet directly at church. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Masks and social distancing are required.
